1 shot espresso (1 oz or about 1/8 cup)
1/2 to 1 tbsp coconut sugar
1 tsp molasses
1/2 tsp cinnamon (non-irradiated like this)
1/4 tsp ginger (non-irradiated like this)
1/4 tsp clove (non-irradiated like this)
about 1/2 cup coconut milk, almond milk or regular organic milk ( I like this coconut milk because it has no additives and is BPA-free)
1. To make espresso at home you will need a stovetop espresso maker like this. If you don’t often make espresso or don’t have an espresso maker you can always substitute the espresso for some very strong coffee. For this recipe I used this stovetop espresso maker.
2. Once the espresso is done brewing, pour 1 shot of espresso into a mug and add the molasses, spices and coconut sugar. Stir well.
3. To prepare the coconut milk (or almond milk), put 1/2 cup coconut milk in a saucepan or pot over medium heat. Turn on the heat to medium and continue to stir. To create foam, you will need a milk frother. Once the milk is warm begin to froth it with the milk frother. After a few minutes it will create fluffy latte foam. Turn off the heat.
4. From the saucepan, pour the coconut milk into the mug containing the espresso mixture, but leave a little bit of room so you can spoon some foam onto the top. Sprinkle with a little bit of cinnamon on top and enjoy!
