If you enjoy Thai food and have gone to many Thai restaurants you probably know all about Thai iced tea. It’s a tasty sweetened tea with condensed or evaporated milk added to it.
Although it seems like a simple drink, there can be a lot of unhealthy additives in it. If the milk is not organic is most likely contains hormones and GMOs. If the condensed milk is sweetened, then the sugar is probably a combination of GMO sugar beets and cane sugar. If it’s from a can it is probably laden with BPAs.
Luckily, making a healthy version of this drink is very easy!
Naturally Sweetened Thai Iced Tea (Dairy-free)
1.5 cups brewed unsweetened organic black tea (I used this brand)
2-4 tsp coconut sugar (adjust depending on how sweet you like it)
1/4 cup full-fat coconut milk (where to find BPA free coconut milk)
1/2 cup ice cubes
1. Bring about 1.5 cups of water to a boil. Put one tea bag into a large mug, jar or small tea pot. Allow the tea to steep for at least 5 minutes.
2. Remove the tea bag and add coconut sugar and stir well.
3. Let the tea cool. You can either let it cool over the course of the day or add ice cubes to it. If you add ice cubes to it you may want to steep the tea a little longer, so it is stronger because it will become watered down by the ice.
4. Once the tea is cooled put ice cubes in. Pour coconut milk over the ice cubes, stir and enjoy!
