Easy Chocolate Raw Milk (without heating/pasteurizing the milk!)

I love this chocolate raw milk because it’s so quick and easy to make. I often make it when I have a chocolate craving. It’s a great way to satisfy a sweet tooth because you get all the benefits of drinking raw milk and get to have some chocolate without any processed sugar or additives.

When it comes to mixing cocoa powder and raw milk we come to a bit of a dilemma. If you heat the milk over about 100° it pasteurizes the milk which basically defeats the purpose of drinking raw milk at all. I don’t know if you’ve tried any beverage at 100° but it’s barely lukewarm; Too cold to be hot cocoa and too warm to be a cool chocolate milk. However, if you want to evenly distribute cocoa powder it needs to be mixed with a heated liquid, so I’ve come up with a solution to liquify the cocoa powder while avoiding heating the milk. Here’s how:

Chocolate Raw Milk:

1 serving

2 Tbsp cocoa powder
2 tsp honey
1/4 cup or less hot water
1.5 cups raw milk

1. First boil about 1/4 cup water. I have an electric tea kettle to boil water because I drink a lot of tea. It’s very convenient and stainless steel, so no leaching plastic!

2. In a 12 oz. mug or heat safe cup add cocoa powder and honey. Pour a small amount of water over the cocoa powder and honey, just enough to be able to mix it into a paste. Mix with a spoon or whisk and make sure the powder is fully incorporated.

3. Fill the cup with cold raw milk and mix well. The chocolate has a tendency to drift to the bottom of the cup, so make sure you mix it well.

Put ingredients in a Nutri-bullet or Blender and skip the watered down version. Also a great milk shake recipe involves adding a banana and 2 raw eggs. yum!

This is great! I’ve made hot chocolate this way, but cold chocolate milk has always been a problem for me. Making the paste would so work! My kids are going to LOVE this. Thanks!

What about a homemade chocolate syrup that you can keep in the fridge? Then you wouldn’t have to boil water every time.

You could certainly prepare all the ingredients without adding the milk and keep it in the fridge for later!
