Mission: Heirloom is a new real food/paleo meal service for the San Francisco Bay Area with a cafe opening up in the fall of 2014.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to the kitchen to tour the facilities and try the meals with my friend and fellow real food blogger Arsy of Rubies & Radishes.
Currently, Mission: Heirloom is operating out of a dedicated gluten free kitchen in Berkeley, CA. They provide meals for local pick up in Berkeley, CA or delivery in San Francisco and they just started delivering through good eggs to the whole SF Bay Area.
You can tell that owner Yrmis Barroeta is passionate about real foods, nutrition, non-toxic living and clean eating.
Apart from that, chef Christian is experienced in experimenting with different materials (something that is important when providing variety in the paleo diet). I was surprised to see so many unique ingredients and grain free flours in their kitchen like sweet potato flour, banana flour and plantain flour.

For lunch, they invited us to dive into their employee lunch–an amazing organic paleo spread with cabbage salad, ground spiced lamb, padron pepper sauce, yuca crackers and all sorts of fermented veggies to put on top. It was the best “employee lunch” I had ever seen!
The food was amazing. Not only did it feel great knowing that all the ingredients were responsibly sourced, but it tasted incredible–so rich, complex, flavorful and texturally satisfying (I loved having the crunchy yuca crackers on top!
Our amazing spread for lunch!
After lunch, Kate Williams gave us a tour of the kitchen and I was amazed at how detailed they are about clean, non-toxic cooking. All cooking tools are either stainless steel or glass. All water used in the foods goes through an incredible state-of-the-art water filter and so much care is taken to source all organic, local produce and pasture raised meats.

Then, they showed us their awesome ice cream maker that was able to make frozen treats from all kinds of dairy-free ingredients (sorry, I can’t remember what it was called). They served us the best dairy-free & sugar-free ice cream I’ve ever had with all kinds of inventive flavors like Plum-hibiscus, peach-carrot, melon-tapioca, Douglas-fir and almond-ginger. Surprisingly, douglas fir was my favorite, I had no idea that the christmas tree was so sweet and flavorful!
They sent us home with their delivery meal for the day- carrot swirls, nomato sauce (aip friendly), pastured goat meatballs, chicken bone broth and yuca crackers (amazing paleo crackers!!). Not surprisingly, when I heated up that food for dinner it was incredible too.
My boyfriend and I were obsessed with the yuca crackers that they sent me home with. They only contain yuca (a root vegetable) and taste just like regular crispy crackers. We just about fainted from joy when we put some ghee and salt on top of them. Needless to say, as soon as we found out they were delivering on good eggs, we ordered 3 bags of yuca crackers 😉
If you are in the SF Bay Area and would like to get organic real food meals by pick up or delivery, you can order through their website (Berkeley or SF) or through good eggs (Bay Area).
And stay tuned for their new cafe opening up in the fall of 2014! Make sure you subscribe and follow them on Facebook and Instagram to stay updated!
