Rustic Apple Tart with Walnuts (Paleo & Gluten Free)
This rustic apple tart with walnuts is the perfect marriage of tart and sweet. This paleo and gluten free treat has very minimal sweeteners yet still works as a delicious dessert!
Preheat the oven to 350F. Line a round baking dish with parchment paper. Leave enough paper on the sides so you will be able to take the tart out of the dish.
In a large bowl, beat the 2 eggs. Add the coconut oil and vanilla, and stir well.
Sift the flour, add the salt and stir until you get a sticky dough. Set aside for 5 minutes for the flour to absorb the liquids.
Transfer the dough to the bottom of the baking dish and press it with your fingers so it will be evenly distributed. Also push it a little bit on the walls of the dish.
Place in the oven for 10 minutes, and then remove and set aside to cool a little bit.
Meanwhile, cut the apples into quarters lengthwise and remove the core and seeds. Slice them thinly, and arrange the slices in concentric circles on the crust.
Brush with the coconut oil (it should be at room temperature, not necessarily melted), add the walnuts and sprinkle with cinnamon and coconut sugar.
Bake for about 40 minutes until the crust gets golden. Set aside to cool before serving.
