Vegan Chocolate Banana Smoothie High Protein

This chocolate banana smoothie is choc full of tasty healthy protein, vitamins and minerals. I often have this smoothie for breakfast since it’s a good way to start the day to keep you full and energized.

This chocolate banana smoothie has roughly about 14-26 grams of protein depending on the protein powder you use. I like to use collagen protein because it has so many great health benefits. I love to add coconut oil since it supports a healthy metabolism while maca helps with hormones.

I also use these handy stainless steel straws to avoid plastic (because a smoothie is just better through a straw in my opinion!) and this cute mason jar glass!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 1 banana about 1/2 cup frozen
  • 2 tbsp raw cacao powder
  • 3 tbsp collagen hydrolysate gelatin or raw organic hemp protein for vegan
  • 1 tbsp almond butter or tahini
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1/2 tsp maca optional- this is great for balancing hormones
  • 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar optional
  • 1 tsp vitamineral green  optional- this is a great way to include some extra vitamins and minerals
Instructions
  1. Place all ingredients in a high powered blender. I prefer the vitamix because it's so powerful and can be used for almost everything! The blendtec is also a good option.

  2. Blend on high until all ingredients are blended. Add ice or water to desired consistency

Lovely made this for breakfast this morning. Even made my own tahini as I couldn’t get nut butter. 😀
Very refreshing glad I had bananas already frozen in my freezer. 😀

Great recipe, but roughly 14g of protein? Is it in the hemp protein powder? Can I substitute powdered egg whites instead?

Sad to say, hemp protein powder is not in my food budget, when I’m feeding two little ones, a husband with a bad back who has been unable to find work, and myself as the only bread winner in the family.

I love your recipes, but it saddens me to no end that I must succumb to food banks with their over abundance of high carb garbage and even less access to green vegetables outside of canned goods. When you’re poor and live in the inner city, feeding everyone and paying the rent are two hard choices I face every month.

I would recommend you substitute whole eggs…not powdered egg whites.

Yes, the hemp protein powder is where the protein comes from. Sorry you’re struggling. I would use what works for you. If you have access to good quality pastured eggs, I would substitute whole eggs. I would prioritize whole food sources of protein over protein powders if you can’t afford the good stuff.

I was trying to to look at Vitamix blenders. Which one do you recommend?
